Growing up in the DMV I have to say that going to go-go dance parties with my girlfriends is apart of my fondest childhood memories. When I moved away and came back, hearing the go-go music at the traffic light was a sweet reminder that I was home. Financially, we have not had much control over the gentrification of our city.

For the most part we have been taking a backseat to what’s been happening right in front of our eyes over the past few years.

The once mostly Chocolate City is becoming more White Chocolate by the day. Witnessing the mass amount of go-go lovers last night was so beautiful.

It was a reminder of what DC used to look like. A sea of different shades of chocolate blended with sprinkles of vibrant colors of spring. No violence. Only love. Love for the good old days. Love for the culture. Love for all things black. It was an unbelievable experience.

If you have not taken the opportunity to be apart in this monumental time stamp in history, I urge you to consider doing so. Go-Go is to DC as Brass Band is to New Orleans and it’s going to stay that way.
