Miss Black North Carolina USA 2016
My name is Channing Scott, a Senior Nursing student pursuing a Bachelors of Science Degree at my home by the sea, Hampton University. As a native of the small town, Hillsborough, North Carolina, I am culturally rooted and invested in the values that North Carolina instills within its residents. With that being said, I am eagerly excited to announce that I will be running as a contestant in the 2016 Miss. Black North Carolina USA Pageant. It is my ultimate goal to continue promoting my personal platform, "Don't Sugarcoat It: Raising Diabetes Awareness in North Carolina and the surrounding communities". Thus far, I have parterned with the National Institues of Health, JDRF Diabetes Foundation, and Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes Foundation, generating continous efforts to raise awareness through research. Also, I was selected as a panel member to the 2014 Hampton University Black Family Conference discussing Diabetes. In 2011, I was diagnosed with Type One Diabetes, three weeks prior to the start of my freshman year of college. Though prescribed not to attend school, I have remained on Hampton University Dean's list, a representative of the Golden Key International Honors Society, and a member of the Gamma Theta Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated through my proficient work ethic. Although my days/nights have been filled with needles, insulin and glucose checks, I have remained tenacious in striving towards my future endeavors in becoming a Womens Health Nurse Practicioner. I would count it a great honor for you to be apart of this amazing journey that I am embarking on! I am aiming to raise a total of $1000 by December 6, to see my dreams become a reality in becoming Miss. Black NC USA 2016 to further promote my platform. I truly appreciate each and everyone of you. If you are unable to donate, please keep me in your prayers. Be blessed and thanks in advance. Love always, Channing L.
