BRAND SPOTLIGHT: Tajara, PR

I am Tajara, PR aka TAJ (like the Taj Mahal)... I am a marketing and sales specialist. My background lies in the beauty world... namely, cosmetics. I was that sales Manager women loved at Nordstrom and Lord and Taylor. I switched over to entertainment and music very recently to use my gifts, skills and connections.

MP: When did you begin in the field of PR?

Exactly one year ago, this month

MP: What inspired you to pursue Public Relations?

I decided to fill the void I saw in the DMV area. I do more artist and brand development that prepares one for PR work but very recently have been able to execute PR services for the top entrepreneurs, artists, and entertainers in my network who are ready for big moves.

MP: What elements do you look for when it comes to creating a brand for someone?

An amazing product/company. a small dedicated team ready to work. marketability, small accomplishments and goals being hit.

MP: What is your view on the current state of branding, PR, and marketing?

You can't keep up with today and tomorrow/'s business with old school trends and past approaches. Stay hip and know that anything is possible.

MP: How important is it to know how to write in the field of PR?

Writing, editing, proofreading, clever, catchy headers and titles are all essential. One must definitely be very comfortable and well versed with the English language and grammar to maintain professionalism.

MP: How do you keep yourself on your toes in this field?

By being around those esteemed and respected in the entertainment and music industry. Always networking, never sleeping.

MP: What advice do you have for that little boy or girl who wants to do what you do?

Excel. Participate in classroom discussions and debates; Join after school honor student clubs helping others with homework; Do the school announcements each morning if possible; Assist your teacher; Run for President or help a classmate run by doing their posters and passing out announcements; Host school events like Talent Shows and stay in the mix of events happening in school.

MP: How do you want your clients to feel after doing business with you?

The need to do something again. And again. And have a continued business relationship. Most of my clients don't want to share me... but I do like referrals.

MP: What do you look for in a client when it comes to creating their brand?

I'm very decisive and selective with who I decide to dedicate time to. I allow anyone to book an initial meeting with me where we have an hour long consultation determining where one is in their career and based on my observations, we will move along accordingly. I look for great energy and positive mindset, and an AMAZING product to work with.

MP: Would you consider PR an art?

Yes, because there is no ONE way to do it... you must just be your best self and that's by continuing to learn and network and connect the dots in all aspects.

MP: What is next for you?

Creating new platforms and situations that connect my network in a becoming, lucrative way... as well as expanding my network.

MP: Who currently inspires you in the industry?

My clients and partners. Those entrepreneurs and artists you see me working with... I believe in them and aim to empower and nurture their belief in our movement(s). Search the hashtag #DMVPower to see some of the people I run with. They are my inspiration.

MP: What is the biggest misconception about Public Relations?

There is really not a misconception... just a lack of knowing exactly what it entails. A lot is involved with PR because you really become whatever the artist/entrepreneur needs in any project or event to ensure maximum publicity and success.

MP: Where can you be found and how can people become clients of yours?

My contact info is in my BIO on Instagram. @Tajara_PR

MP: are you social? FB? IG? TWITTER?
