Artist Spotlight: Lucci Da Boss
Lucci Da Boss started recording music at the tender age of 13. It was a long-time coming for the artist, who’d started rapping at age nine. A close cousin who lived with Lucci inspired him to rap. His cousin was killed by the police. Since then, Lucci’s own experiences have been all the inspiration he needs.
Once a duo, The Turnup Boyz now consists of emcees Lucci, Fresh Big Money, and Legend; and singer, Haiti Boy. In the group and as a solo act, Lucci says he’s already feeling legendary even though he hasn’t made it yet. “I’m just something epic that’s ‘bout to happen to the game,” he says.
Lucci’s single “No Questions” has received a lot of attention online. The same goes for Big Money Fresh’s single, “Shooter with a Shooter” and mixtape, Trap Hard or Go Home. Lucci says everyone from 15 to 50 wants to listen to The Turnup Boyz – and that’s why they are going to take over the industry and the streets.
This year, The Turnup Boyz performed at the Howard Theatre with singer Devin White and did a show with Fetty Wap at Club Stadium. They’ve also collaborated with Project Pat, Shy Glizzy, Lani Flaze, Gorilla Slim and many others. Recently, they partnered with DCTo20 founder DJ Anonymous. Lucci says, “I look at us as the new Future and DJ Esco.”
Indeed, Lucci sees his career going straight to the top. “We got mixtape after mixtape droppin; video after video,” he says. “We ain’t stopping. There’s no chill button. We ain’t got no break time.”
