ARTISTRY SPOTLIGHT: Chicken Bob (Battle Rapper)

TMP: When did you start in the world of music?
CB: 2015 is when I started managing one of my artist Don Tae, who is also a friend of mine. I started that after he released his fourth mixtape "THOUGHTS FROM THE BACKSEAT".
TMP: When did you start battle rapping?
CB: I began my battle rap career in Feb 2015 on UDUBB Battle League, but unofficially I started in high school 2010.
TMP: Was it hard to brand yourself?
CB: Not at all! I'm a fan first, I've been studying the battle rap world/culture since 2006. My name is the brand it's self. Chicken Bob is like my alter ego .
TMP: Would you consider what you do, your form of art?
CB: most definitely!
TMP: How did you come up with the name Chicken Bob?
CB: Getting high with my friends lol . They started calling me Chicken Bob Jr because of a guy from my neighborhood who I resembled who name was Chicken Bob. I put it on my Facebook and the name just stuck. The rest is history !
TMP: What is the misconception about battle rapping?
CB: It's not for everyone! You must have thick skin. A lot of mainstream artist believe they can do what we do. Battle rapping is the ultimate test of creativity and lyricism.
TMP: What is next for you?
CB: ALOT! I'm more than just an artist . Outside of releasing Don Tae's new mixtape " SACRIFICES OF THE SLOW GRIND" my next comedy show is on New Year's Eve in Bowie sponsored by Bazement Brothers ENT. I battle Grytz on the PIT in VA. Then I battle Nardie on Capital Uncut in DC. After those , I also start filming for my part for the movie "Heavy Hittas" that will premiere at SXSW 2018. Other than that I'm just trying to build my roster and book more battles on Don't Choke Rap League. (FreeMurder & YourHonor)
TMP: What advice do you have for that little boy who wants to do what you do?
CB: If you really want to do this , DONT GIVE UP! even when everyone is telling you you should. It's a grind. Take advantage of every opportunity you can.
TMP: How have you manged to navigate through the world of battle tap?
CB: A lot of trash talking! Doing a lot of battles just for promotions. Supporting the culture as a whole is really the number one thing.
TMP: Are there any other areas you want to tackle?
CB: Stand up comedy is the next area I just started doing this year. Instead of just stracthing it off the bucket list, I just want to see what I can do with it.
