PODCAST SPOTLIGHT: The Cultural Critics

“New Year, New Critics”. The Cultural Critics launched their first episode in January 2018 and have stayed consistent dropping every Tuesday. The Critics discuss the latest ‘New Drops’, what’s pipin’ hot in the news cycle with D. Carter’s ‘True Tea’, and have healthy dialogue about varying cultural topics in Vibey Gyal Glo’s ‘Spicy / Saucy’.

Occasionally they’ll end their episode with the ‘Critic Crisis’ where they offer homegirl advice on how to handle certain situations. Whether it’s just the girls in The Clubhouse, to regulars like Showtime Sanders, or some of their favorite artists like YBN Cordae and Ari Lennox, The Cultural Critics have been known to produce quality content every week that blends women in the music and media industry from genuine music lovers.

D. Carter & Vibey Gyal Glo together have created “Cultural Chaos”, a media platform that hosts The Cultural Critics and The HOEnest Truth, a podcast with five women of color having conversation about sex, dating, and relationships. Together D. and Glo have goals of having a multimedia platform that places people of color, especially women, in the forefront.

MEET GLO:

“CEO GLO” is a DMV native, who's decided to tackle music and media in many ways. She originally got her start in the music media industry by starting her own blog called The Hippie Junkie. Via her blog she was able to gain music industry connections needed to continue in her journey. She also spent some time blogging with other music-affiliated blogs including DTLR Radio, UTor and Music on the Dot. During her blogging days she interviewed rappers ranging from (Jay) IDK, Omen, and Rich the Kid. She has also worked events such as artist meet & greets, mix-tape release parties, and festivals as “All Access Insiders”. With her affiliation of the independent concert promotion and production company, I.M.P., she’s been able to book live events all over DC with talent acts varying from Fat Trel to J. Robb. She also works very closely with the brand Connecting Cool curating their Instagram account and assisting with their live events including Diggin’ Thru the Crates.

Through her affiliation with iHeartMedia DC she has been able to launch her podcast - The Cultural Critics; a hip-hop based podcast that discusses the new music drops of the week, things going on in hip-hop media, and deep-dives into topics ranging from ranking discographies to playing games like “Name that Smash, Name that Sleeper”. Within the first year, The Cultural Critics Clubhouse has had guests including YBN Cordae, Ari Lennox, and tour DJ Lord Rockwell. Along with The Cultural Critics, she and her D. Carter have produced another podcast, The HOEnest Truth; a panel of 5 black women in their mid-late 20s talking sex, dating, and relationships. Glo has goals of expanding her reach within both music and media and has many digital content ideas that she is strategically working on producing as of late. When she’s not working on pursuing her endeavors she offers consulting advice to clients & creative assisting to those in the industry who need help connecting some dots. You can usually find her rockin' a cool pair of shades out and about in DC, either attending a show, or running the event. Her heart is with hip-hop, but she also enjoys all types of music, thanks to her affiliation with iHeartRadio and The 9:30 Club.
