Mother’s Day turn ups in the DMV

Muva Chocolate’s Lit beyond DMV rendition of “Dear Mama” held at the beautiful two floor Greenlight Studios in NW was nothing short of extraordinary.

The event started at 6 o’clock with a “Mamawork” bottomless mimosa and dessert bar hour to mix and mingle with other Moms in this area. The way that Lauren Green from Sophisticated Party Life event planning transformed the space into a pink heaven with shimmer, flowers, candles, and a huge balloon garland was truly breathtaking. It was sweet, spice, and everything nice. Very lush, girly and inviting.

After the cocktail hour all the guests transitioned upstairs to the dinning area which was also decorated beautifully. Chef Tiffany Atkins of Fully Loaded Kitchen served a variety of appetizers which included shrimp cocktail, wings and fried macaroni balls. After the appetizers they opened the buffet with your choice of chicken or salmon, asparagus, kale and cranberry salad, and creamy mashed potatoes with gravy. Everything was delicious.

At around 8 o’clock the speaker panel began with Lavondra Shinholster, Jazmyne Wade, Nada Allie, and Donnetta Wilson. The panelists had encouraging words for all the Moms.

“I think that you millennial moms are bomb. I think that you are smart to not always follow what we do and how we raised our kids,” said Nada Allie gave wisdom on being an older Mom.

The topics were “I’m a Mom, now what?”, “Babymama”, “OG MILF Talk”, and “Gone too soon”.

Creator of “Dear Mama” and CEO of Lit Beyond DMV, Samantha Magoba, said that she came up with the idea after hearing about the tragic homicide case of 10-year old Makiyah Wilson on the news last summer. Makiyah Wilson’s mother and sister, who is a surviving victim of the incident, were honored guests.

The family of Makiyah Wilson decided to honor her legacy by starting a mentor-ship program called ‘Makiyah Scouts.’

“Makiyah never wanted me to be sad about anything. She would always tell me that we would be okay no matter what the situation was. She brought a smile to everyone who knew her and her legacy will live on forever,” said Mom.

A special spoken word blessing by @AziyrahThePoet was given to close the evening as everyone said their goodbyes and collected their gift bags.

The perfect pre-Mother’s Day treat. This event will be annual so if you missed it this year mark your calendars for Cinco de Mayo 2020. To keep up with #dearmama events follow @muvachocolate on IG.
