EVENT REVIEW: NABJ REGION I CONFERENCE 'Opening Reception'

Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to the NABJ Region I Conference 'Opening Reception' Powered by Amazon and WABJ.

Held at the beloved NPR (who has been giving us the best Tiny Desks ever), saw an evening of success, black leadership, triumph and a restoring for the future to come here in the Nation's Capital.

I was afforded the opportunity to attend this amazing reception, by DMV 35 Under 35's Sommer Hill (Multimedia Journalist & WABJ Member) and I must say, I was beyond impressed with the diverse selection of journalists. Such a vast number of specialties, all ranging from so many different walks of media.

I would be remiss if I did not shoutout President Phil Lewis and Executive Secretary Ashleigh Demi of WABJ, who anchored the night for me. The welcoming into the world of WABJ did not go unnoticed.

Founded in 1975, the Washington Association of Black Journalists (WABJ) is an organization for Black journalists, journalism professors, public relations professionals, and student journalists in the Washington, D.C., metro area.

As a journalist here in the city, you do not always find your community. This beautiful night I found my community and so much more. Filled with some of the nation's top journalists, media experts and professionals, allowed for an evening of networking, strengthening and expanding. In entirety this night was needed as I left filling recharged.

Of course, what is a reception without a good cocktail!
