Some evenings remind you why dreams matter, others remind you why we must continue investing in the people courageous enough to pursue them. The U.S. Dream Academy's 25th Power of a Dream Gala was a beautiful combination of both.

Held at the incomparable Duke Ellington School of the Arts and hosted by renowned journalist and television personality Shawn Yancy, the evening celebrated 25 years of impact under the fitting theme, “Dreams Evolve,” and, excellence was certainly in attendance!

From the celebration of artistry to the powerful stories of possibility, the evening beautifully connected the worlds of education, creativity, and community empowerment, reminding us that dreams aren't always linear. They grow, transform, and evolve alongside the people brave enough to pursue them.

The undeniable highlight of the evening came when Grammy Award-winning recording artist Regina Belle delivered a beautiful performance of the timeless classic “A Whole New World,” famously recorded alongside Peabo Bryson.

And let me tell you, hearing that song in a room dedicated to making dreams possible, was an entirely different experience, a record that has inspired generations to imagine beyond their circumstances became the perfect soundtrack for an organization whose mission is rooted in doing exactly that.

Founded by Grammy-nominated singer Wintley Phipps, the U.S. Dream Academy provides mentoring, academic enrichment, character development, and educational opportunities for young people, particularly children impacted by parental incarceration and communities facing economic hardship. Through its programs, the organization helps young people develop the skills, confidence, and support systems necessary to pursue brighter futures.

And what better setting to celebrate that mission than Duke Ellington School of the Arts, an institution dedicated to nurturing the next generation of creative excellence? As a D.C. native and entertainment journalist, witnessing an evening that connected philanthropy, music, education, and the arts was a beautiful reminder that dreams don't have expiration dates, and circumstances should never determine a child's potential.

A heartfelt thank-you to Priscilla Clarke of Clarke PR for extending the invitation and allowing me to experience firsthand the extraordinary work of the U.S. Dream Academy. Congratulations to the entire organization on 25 years of celebrating the power of a dream through this annual event.
